Cases

Examples of successful treatment are a key element for the development of homeopathy. We learn most from our patients and from the experiences they have after taking the prescribed remedies. However, even a very busy homeopathic doctor can only see a limited number of patients over the course of a lifetime of practice. Therefore, we promote the exchange of experience through the publication of cases.

Several years ago, the Meyenburg Homeopathic Foundation, who is the sponsor of HomeoVision, initiated a project for the exchange of case studies, the Delphi Project. For legal reasons, it is not possible to publish full case studies on the HomeoVision website, mainly because it is impossible to get fully informed consent for the release of confidential patients details on freely accessible internet sites. She was referred by a female colleague, partly because she was not helped adequately, but also because the patient had been asking to see a male homeopath instead. She is seeking help for depression, anxiety, moods swings, and self harm.

A short large rotund man. No social graces. Had a kind of twisted smile on his face. Sat with his huge belly hanging over his trousers, shirt buttons straining at the seams, legs apart, making no attempt to present himself in a more attractive way. Gruff in his manner, loud voice. When describing something that annoyed him he made what can only be described as growling noises.

Er kommt mit seiner Frau zur Behandlung, die ihrerseits Colitis ulcerosa hat und die mir die treibende Kraft, was das Beginnen einer Behandlung angeht, zu sein scheint. Als er in das Sprechzimmer kommt, wirkt er sehr zurückhaltend, fast schüchtern. Es scheint ihm recht unangenehm zu sein, schließlich mit mir allein zu sein. Es macht ihn verlegen. Sein Gesicht ist von einem dichten, sehr schwarzen Bart fast völlig verdeckt. Seine Hände zeigen Spuren seines Berufes. Es sind Öl- und Dreckspuren unter den Nägeln zu erkennen, die entweder sehr hartnäckig sind oder nicht gründlich genug angegangen wurden.

Case of a 25 year old woman, coming for eruptions at both hands. both palms are very dehydrated and red. There is flaking of the skin at the borders and deep cracks that do not appear to be healing very well, forming cicatrices. Chapped hands. Interesting was that even that she was describing serious problems, her clinical problems affecting her life, she was talking cheerfully as if the problems would not be so bad

He shows strong behaviour-problems, throwing tantrums, yelling and screaming at people. He is incredibly hard headed, he closes off into this anger defiance, unhappiness. He shows strong mood swings and very often feels miserable., but he can have incredible highs, too. The slightest cause could either put him down, with nearly a desire to ruin his mood or really cheer him up. He likes to shock people. He had a faze where he grabbed between the legs of people, pulling the penis of other people.

In 1 1/2 years under the remedy Androc. there was a beautiful change in his whole way of being. A graduate improvement as you would expect in such severe cases, the perscriber stuck to the remedy even though the progress was not very clear after 2 months, only after giving XM and waiting two more months it was very evident.

The remedy also helped in acute accerbation of an old physical symptom- which was backpain.

Woman, 50 years of age, coming for slow digestion since childhood and since years she has problems with her lymphatic system. Often her face, her arms or another part of her body is swollen, so much that even people who know her den't recognize that it is she."I am like Miss Piggy then". She constantly feels very tired.

Atopic dermatitis in a 7 month old boy

I asked as to the childs age and she told me he was 7 months old. I was concerned that at such a young age there wouldn't be enough clear symptoms to help cure the skin issues. I asked if either she or her husband had a similar history. She said the boy's father grew up with many of the same symptoms. So I told her to make sure to bring the father in as well. I was hoping that with the general issues of the father combined with the general symptoms of the child I could find a Rx that would help.

At 3 months of age, Tyler developed respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which caused inflammation of his airways, wheezing and a runny nose. His chief complaint was an itchy, bright red rash on his cheeks and head, which he would “scratch and claw” at incessantly.

treatment: June 1994, many years after observed. Case of Berberis vulgaris.

Story of sexual abuse as a child. Protracted initial aggravation

(leukorrhoea) after first dose of Berberis. Remarkable signs of healing seen

in the dream pattern of the patient. Berberis as a "big" remedy, aside from

many prejudices to be read in many traditional descriptions of the remedy.

Manuel is 31 years old man whose aim in life is to get into the film- business in the USA. Since his first stay in the states 4 years ago, he suffers of digestive problems (flatulence, regurritations) and fatigue which limits him that much mentally, that he could not return to the states as planned. Neither colonwashes nor a radical diet could help him. Bov. C 200 lead to a quick and marked amelioration of the general condition and his pleasure in life, while the digestive problems first did change their pattern: subjectively he now perceived the symptoms more as an isolated problem and not so much affecting him as a whole. After a relapse the remedy had to be repeated after 8 months in same potency, after which not only the energetic and psychic situation got better, the digestive problems disappeared as well. The last contact was one year after the repetition, he did change his job meanwhile and was planning another journey into the USA.

Bubo-v: the great horned owl

A case of a 58 year old female, (now she is 61) with ADHD & chronic neck/ jaw problems. The neck and jaw felt always very tense and she spent thousands of dollars for treating it, she said. The hint for the remedy she gave by telling about her quite strong relation with owls, including dreams of owls.

Ms. H., a lady of 42, comes with a kind of hyperkeratosis of her hands, which makes the skin crack in winter, leaving deep fissures. She also complains of much nervousness, menstrual colics and difficulties with accepting her feminine side. She presents a peculiar fear of turtles.

With her clear amelioration by exertion, her irritability and other symptoms, a differential diagnosis could have been Sepia.

The remedy triggered a very prompt and strong response. Simultaneously with a first aggravation, she felt much more relaxed, energetic, healthy - and by and by, her physical complaints vanished, too. With only four doses within three years, she feels a totally different person today.

CARCINOSINUM

Male patient, 30 years of age, coming for Haemangiosarcoma of the liver with metastases in liver and lungs. The patient has been depressed over the last two years, he could not find any meaining in life and had a very strong fear of cancer. Enuresis nocturna as a child until aged 12. Strong feelings of guilt. He has always been precautious. FU of 5 years.

Cerast.

Homeopath: from Austria

Female patient, born in 1939, coming for problems which started with the abrupt beginning of menopause about 10 years ago. PMH: adenocarcinoma of colon descendens, which has been operated, no further therapy for this. The case was solved due to the theme of shoes in her dreams which the author knew that it came up as an expression of the theme of feminitity in the dreams of the proving of Cerastes. FU for about 31/2 years. DD Lach.

Choc.

Homeopath: from Switzerland

The baby Marvin suffered from very frequent feverish colds, often triggered by his mother leaving him in the crib. He tended to coryza, cough, earache, suppuration and blockage of the Eustachian tubes. After delivery, he had had asphyxia neonatorum, a birth trauma and torticollis, he was separated from his mother into the incubator.

He is a very yielding child, easy-to-have, affectionate and curious. His development is slower than average and he likes to eat all the time, he especially desires red fruit. A possible differential diagnosis could have been Calcerea.

Chocolate helped him considerably in every respect, chronically as well as in different acute situations. Treatment started in his first year of age and it is the only high potency remedy he ever had in the following two years since then.

Case of a woman aged 34, diagnosis polyarthritis. Dates back to

November 1995. The case turned out to be Chocolate after many remedies given with only poor results. Differential diagnosis: Sepia, Lac caninum. The dream gave a hint to the right remedy.

His appearance:

looking very propper, in a little old-fashioned way. He has a timid, almost shy look and is smiling a bit too often. He gets out of his chair like a school boy who is glad that it is now his time. He is looking younger or even adolesent although he is wearing a beard.

50 year old woman, coming for severe problems with urge and frequent urination. History of colitis, rec. sinusitis and bronchopneumonia as a baby. Important is the quality of her anger. No special heart symptoms.

Dat-a

Woman beyond menopause, coming for paranoid jealousy and rages. Animated and dramatic in her way of talking. She also suffers from acne rosacea which got worse after menopause. Facial twitchings. Slightest causes create rage like a vulcano, intense anger, easily provoked. The same dynamic in her jealousy more or less, feels paranoid and thinks her boyfriend abuses her for household duties. Strong feeling of being alone and unconnected.

Abstract: Male patient, born 1968, first seen in 1994.First impression: athletic, tall, slim, young man. He used to do endurance sports (triathlon) before his disease started. He is a student of business administration. When he comes to the hospital he seems to suffer a lot due to his disease, which started in 1989. On one side he appears very open but on the other one also anxious and insecure. Because of his disease and the suffering related to it, he seems to have given up on himself. For him his disease seems to be incurable.

she comes with son and daughter-in-law; a vivid lady, loquacious and friendly, I am sure she has been attractive, today her skin in the face is red and desquamating on her lids; during the consultation she sometimes turns to her son, as if something interesting had come to her mind which she then tells him, while letting me wait; I perceive it like the performance of "la grande dame", who is accustomed to let people wait. she is wearing a joggingsuit much too large for her thin body; she excuses for her outfit saying she could not wear anything tight because of her skin; nevertheless she has her arms and legs bandaged like a mummy, because otehrwise she would scratch herself to death during night, like a swarm of grashoppers; during physical examination I see, that her legs are swollen and brownish, like in a chronic atrophic dermatitis.

Woman, 28 years of age, very shy and insecure. She wants to become pregnant. She had undergone already hormonal treatment for this. The problem is that she does not ovulate. woman 30 year-old clerk. Very thin, giving quite an angry impression while speaking. Chronic rheumatism, often a feeling of tight muscle bands. Convulsions in childhood. Recurrent explosive headache always connected with vomiting. Recurrent episodes of a sore throat, as if an ember is on her throat (glühende Kohle).

woman of 49 years of age, who has been in treatment already sine 7 years before finding the correct remedy. She came for various problems like allergic reactions, hayfever and asthma, intermittent depressions, chronic sinusitis, digestion problems, uterus fibroma and other systemic disturbances.

Male patient aged 43 years, with episodes of recurrent gastritis and sinusitis. He was treated homeopathically since years with reasonable results with Staph, Sil. and Carc, but in 2002 he came again. „ My thoughts get stuck in my sinuses, with unbearable pain and feeling of being closed up, otitis and pressure in forehead. He has clear difficulties to be in contact with his wife and children.

Woman, 39 years old, who came for the treatment of an atypical expressed Lupus erythematodes and severe autoimmune- thrombocytopenia. In her past medical history there were many acute diseases, where some of them were really severe in their development and obvious was as well the strong loss of energy of Iodum

Homeopath: from Russia

Boy, 10 years old, chronic astmatic bronchitis. He has suffered from recurrent colds since 2 years old, often treated with antibiotics. Since last year, there is breathlessness during paroxysmal coughs. A friendly, quiet boy, who wakes every night between 2-3 a.m. He has to sit up then, puts his elbows on his knees and rocks to and fro.

Woman, 29 years of age who came with tinnitus in both ears since some weeks ago. Emotionally she was in quite some stress, she developed panic attacks and had the fear that she would never get rid of the noises in her ears. She could not fall asleep properly and was at the edge with her state, could not relax any more.

She got Lac-c first in Nov. 2002, her complaints disappeared and is very well with this remedy until now ( 10/09)

Chief Complaint: Anxiety and Depression

Woman about 70 years of age. She was one of the children who where brought to the concentration camps during World War II. She had strong panic attacks since about the1960s, and she often wanted to commit suicide. Only the idea that her son could find her kept her away from doing so. PMH of breast cancer.

She often had frightful dreams of being chased by horses. FU about 2 1/2 years.

Lac-leo.

Woman, 53 years of age, coming for allergic reactions, especially her eyes are involved with redness, swelling of conjunctivae and lids, especially left side and heavy feeling of the eye itself. She reacted on nuts, carrots, mascara and several other things. IGE and allergic tests were normal.

When she was 20, she wrote a little note for her parents and left it on the table: "I am gone now", packed her luggage and moved to South of Germany. She said because she was not allowed to live the life she wanted.

She had a special relation with cats. When she had a lover, the Siam- cat she had vomited into the shoes of the man of her choice. The cat chose her husband, in the way that only with him, this cat jumped onto his lab and did not vomit into his shoes. When she was angry, this had a intense and characteristic expression as well.

Abstract Limulus

Andrea, eine 31-jährige Frau, leidet seit der Geburt ihres ersten Kindes an rezidierenden und jeweils mehrere Wochen dauernden Erkältungen mit Fieber, Fieberblattern, Schnupfen, Gliederschmerzen und insbesondere Schmerzen im Kiefer. Das subjektiv grösste Problem ist, dass diese Erkältungen sie jeweils an ihrer Arbeit (selbständige Grafikerin) hindern. Unter Stress bekommt Andrea einen Ausschlag um die Augen; sie leidet zudem seit ihrem 16. Lebensjahr an Allergien gegen Katzenhaare und Hausstaub, die jeden Morgen zu heftigen Niessanfällen führen. Nach Limulus C 200 verschwinden sowohl die Erkältungen als auch die Allergien. In den vergangenen 4 Jahren musste das Mittel 3x wiederholt werden und wirkte auch im Akutfall innert weniger Stunden. Andrea integrierte in dieser Zeit ihre weibliche Seite auf sichtbare Weise. In einer Folgekonsultation erzählt Andrea, dass sie in ihrer Kindheit während mehreren Jahren wiederholt vom atlantischen Schwertschwanz geträumt hatte und Bücher mit Meerestieren ihre Lieblingslektüre gewesen waren.

Man of 60 years of age, thin and nervous. He is accompanied by his wife who obviously creates quite some anger in him. He came for deterioration in his vision and he was afraid of going blind. Strong pains in various places, in the neck, bacl, soles of feet, in the spleen…He also suffers of sudden attacks of vertigo.

Case of Aspergers syndrome

Boy, 5 years of age, coming under mother`s arm, unwilling to interact. He is hitting his mother while sitting behind her. I would get very overwhelmed with the tantrums: he’d scream for hours and hours - unbelievable. He’s always been a biter. He’d get very frustrated and bite. ? He’ll kick and swing his arms. If they try to hold him, he’ll try to strike out at his relatives.

Mentha piperita

woman, 39 years of age, who came first for hairloss due to malfunction of the thyroid gland, constpation and hemorrhoids. Aged 21, her sister developed a stroke after an operation and is partly paralyzed since, which caused strong grief in her and she did not to show her emotions and was taking antidepressants. She was treated first with Collinsonia and then with Mentha piperita, after which the Hashimoto and her other complaints disappeared.

Cataleptic condition with chronical sinusitis, stomach pain and vomiting:

A boy of 11years of age (the chronic case is running for about 10 years now) came for persistent frontal headaches since 3 weeks. Another complaint was frequent urination (15-20x a day) and some pain during urination without pathological findings. Yvonne is a 27 year old woman. After a motorcycle- accident, she developed strange sensations in her legs and, linked with this, some anxiety. Although she seperated meanwhile from the boyfriend she had the accident with, she cannot set limits towards his problems, and she fell from one ENT-infection into the other, developed allergies and a recurrent sinusitis.

The most obvious thing was that she was only 52 kg of weight and rather a delicate little person but nevertheless, she moved tons of gods in her job and she enjoyed it.

The Shadow of PTSD in Chronic Disease: A case (post traumatic stress disorder) PTSD is explicit in this case, however it can also present in a more insidious fashion. The main themes I?ve observed to help me consider PTSD as the primary diagnosis are: 1. Escape: a. Unconsciousness, Numbness, Floating, Disassociation, Painlessness, Restlessness/Occupation 2. Finally he was adopted by a wonderful family. He was mild mannered and soft spoken. He paused frequently, sometimes for long moments. He would often look like he was struggling to form thoughts at times, often putting his hand to his forehead as if working hard to come up with thoughts. In addition, throughout treatment, especially in the beginning, he often would struggle with basic concepts. His presentation is somewhat scattered. I found it necessary at times to focus him with a variety of prompts.

She was an attractive dark haired woman, with a fine bone structure, thin and petite. Her face was very pale. She was very friendly and smiled a lot as she talked. She made good contact and used my name frequently, as if we had known each other for years. Articulating clearly she spoke very quickly and was extremely animated in every way, moving a lot in her chair as she talked. She described herself as a performer (she acts and sings). Sitting forwards in her chair for most of the consultation, she gesticulated frequently and illustrated her story with various facial expressions and a wide range of different voices. She was witty and fluent, and needed very little prompting. In the corridor outside the room a door would occasionally bang shut, but softly not loudly. On each and every occasion she would react. I asked her about this.
