What is a homeopathic vaccination?
It means a procedure developed by Samuel Hahnemann to prepare remedies. Homeopathic remedies are prepared according to strict pharmaceutic rules and in tune with the legal authorities in each country. Step by step, the remedies are diluted or triturated, and after each step of dilution, the mixture is forcefully shaken. The combination of diluting and shaking has a special significance here, as only through this procedure does the homeopathic strength of the remedy come up. The dilution is done with the help of neutral substances (alcohol or lactose).
What is a D-potency, C-potency or Q-potency?
D or X (= decimal)- potency means dilution of the remedy each step 1: 10
C (= centesimal)- potency means dilution of the remedy each step 1: 100
Q (= quinquagent millesimale)- potency means dilution each step 1: 50.000
Shaking or “succussion” is done as well in fixed steps every time after each dilution, so this happens after the D1, D2, D3 or D4 and so on, until the desired potency is prepared.
Incorrectly, Q- potencies are often still called LM- potencies (incorrect translation of the latin abbreviation).
What is a constitutional remedy?
By this name is meant the individually fitting homeopathic remedy, the remedy, which produces effects the most similar to the constitution of a human being as a whole, according to his physical, emotional and mental state.
How to take in homoeopathic remedies?
1 dosage of a D- or C- potency means: take 3-5 globules once and let it melt in your mouth.
1 dosage of a Q- potency means: take 3-5 drops of the dilution. Each time before taking, the bottle has to be forcefully shaken 10 times. Then the 3-5 drops are put into a plastic tumbler filled 2/3 with cold tabbwater and stirred 10x with a plastic spoon, which is used to take the dose. From this, intake of one spoonful, the rest is thrown away. The tumbler and spoon should be washed afterwards.
How often homeopathic remedies have to be repeated?
Frequency and duration of the intake have to be suggested by the homeopathic doctor in charge. Generally one can say that the higher the potency is, the more rarely it should be taken. In chronic diseases, a C- potency is usually repeated only after several weeks, while a D- potency can be repeated already after some days or daily in low potencies. In the case of acute diseases, a much higher frequency could be indicated. Q- potencies can be used once a day, but intake should be interrupted once old symptoms reoccur.
How quickly does a homeopathic remedy act?
There is no general answer to this question. The speed of action depends on a number of factors. For example if the disease is chronic or acute. In addition, it is dependent on the constitution of the patient and the dynamics of the remedy and its potency. The different remedies need variable time until they unfold their effect on an organism. In acute cases, the action of a remedy often can be sensed within minutes.
What to do if, after having taken a homeopathic remedy, amelioration takes place?
Do not repeat, wait and let the remedy do its work.
What to do if there is no amelioration?
Then either the remedy or the potency is not the correct one and you have to consult the homeopathic doctor.
What to do if the remedy is working but the improvement gets less after a short time?
If it is still concerning the former ailment (e.g. acne) and there are no other symptoms, which are aggravated in the same time, the remedy can be repeated by taking one dose of globules again. Or in the case of acute disease ( e.g. renal colic due to kidney-stones) one dosage can be dissolved in a glass of water and repeated every quarter of an hour, until the amelioration reoccurs, then stopping the intake.
What about side- effects during homeopathic treatment?
If a remedy is given only once in an acute situation, there are no side- effects. Very rarely patients react in a kind of oversensitive way, if a homeopathic remedy is repeated several times and in this case of oversensitivity some symptoms may occur which have to be considered as an overreaction. These symptoms usually disappear after a short time on their own after the remedy is stopped. Furthermore, some disagreeable symptoms might rise up after inadequate and /or prolonged intake, in the sense of an unwanted remedy- proving.
In the case of poisonous substances, low potencies like Mercurius D 4 should not be used for long periods, as Mercurius D4 for example still contains 0.1 mg of mercury, which then might lead to poisonous symptoms due to the prolonged intake.
What about using homeopathic remedies in the same time as conventional medicine?
In the ideal case, no other remedies should be used, but this often is not realistic. Usually, the effect of conventional medicine is not reduced by using a homeopathic remedy and the other way around is similar: generally the effect of the homeopathic remedy is not reduced by using conventional medicine in the same time, though judging the results of the homeopathic treatment can become difficult then.
What should one avoid during homeopathic treatment?
Especially things containing Camphora certainly have to be avoided. This should be neither inhaled (for example Camphora is used sometimes in the “Sauna”) nor used on the skin (for example it sometimes is part of cooling lotions like after-sun- lotion, creams for injuries in sports, creams for rheumatic diseases, lip-balm or after shave). Strong aetheric oils like eucalyptus should preferably not be used as well.
Coffee: often coffee does not interrupt the effect, but as for some remedies, this might not be sure, the safe advise would be to wait with drinking coffee until the positive reaction is clear. After this, one could test the effect of coffee by drinking it and see if the positive effect is less afterwards. In this case, the coffee should be avoided then.
Which are the limitations of homeopathic treatment during pregnancy and nursing?
For acute treatment, there is no limitation then.
Why a single remedy and not a combination of several homeopathic remedies?
The more specifically an impulse is given, the better is the effect. This is guaranteed in the best way by giving a single remedy, the one, which fits best with the individual sickness and the general condition of the person as a whole.
Is homeopathy only a placebo effect?
There certainly is considerable placebo effect arising from the holistic nature and thoroughness of a well-taken homeopathic interview. However, homeopathy is very effective in babies and animals. Over 89 carefully designed double-blind clinical and laboratory studies have been published, proving its effectiveness. Tissue and cell cultures also respond quantitatively to exposure to remedies. (Bill Gray, MD, Homeopathy: Science or Myth? North Atlantic Books, Berkeley, 2000)
What is a homeopathic vaccination?
A homeopathic remedy cannot create a reliable protection against a very specific infection, because the action of a homeopathic remedy is not due to a specific antibody-- reaction, which would be required to have a specific protection.
Nevertheless, there have investigations been done in Cuba on mass-prophylaxis against Leptospirosis and other epidemic tropical diseases and there is a discussion on this topic among the homeopathic community, if there are valuable effects in using homeopathic remedies as a prophylaxis.
Warning:
In the case of serious diseases or emergencies it is surely necessary to consider a medical doctor immedeately. Suggesting supportive remedies is not a substitute for medical first aid.
