Main use in traditional medicine is constipation. A 1920 born teacher from Lower Bavaria, who grew up on a farm , told me his granny ever so often sent him out into the woods for Alderbark , because she tended to be constipated.
It also was used in gall - and liverdiseases , anaemia , fever and especially hemorrhoides .
In traditional medicine the bark is taken as tee . 1 teaspoon full of the cut bark is used for 250 ml of water, then left for 12 hours under occasional stirring , then the bark is removed and the sud is to be drunken before sleep lokishwarm
